Two advertisements extracted from Trove for the licensed grocer at the corner of Powlett and Hotham Streets, East Melbourne, now known as East Melbourne Cellars. One from 1923 lists the address among retailers for Romalo wines; the other from 1917 advertises the products on sale.

Bluestone
Newspaper clipping about the extensive use of bluestone in Melbourne. In East Melbourne it is commonly seen in lanes, foundations, kerbstones and gutters as well as some fine early buildings such as St. Patrick's Cathedral. In Melbourne's earliest days bluestone was quarried in what is now the Fitzroy Gardens.

A book of over 700 black and white photographs of early Melbourne scenes, mainly buildings, which have been demolished or significantly changed. The first half of the book concentrates on the CBD but includes public gardens and the Yarra River. The second half of the book looks at a number of the inner suburbs. East Melbourne has its own chapter of 15 photos.

First of two volume memoir by Fairlie Taylor. Taylor started work as a teacher in regional Victoria. In 1933 she became Victoria's first full-time teacher-librarian at Presbyterian Ladies' College, East Melbourne and later at Methodist Ladies' College. This volume covers the period 1887-1919.

The Woods of Woodlawn, 54 Powlett Street: a collection
A collection of 14 digital images relating to the Wood family of Woodlawn, 54 Powlett Street, East Melbourne.
James Wood commissioned Blackwell and Dalton to build Woodlawn for him and his wife, Mary, in 1889. Their portraits are etched into the glass above the vestibule door. James was a principal in Wood Dunn & Co. Market Street, dairy produce merchants.

Frederick William Debney
A scanned copy of a typescript of the life of Frederick William Debney by Margaret Brookes, his grand-daughter. Debney and his wife lived at Chandos, 44 Hotham Street, East Melbourne between 1910 and 1919. When they lived there they formed the 'Chandos Club' where their friends and members met once a fortnight to give papers, recite, sing and perform.

1085 Hoddle Street - sketch plan
Sketch plan of 1085 Hoddle Street, East Melbourne. The purpose of this plan was to demonstrate to the building surveyor the method by which the builders had tested the load bearing capacity of the concrete floor. They had loaded a strip of floor three feet wide with 23 bags of cement uniformly distributed, which equalled 80 lbs per sq ft, double that required.

Inge King - obituary
Obituary of sculptor, Inge King (1915-2016) whose relevance to East Melbourne lies in her commission by the architectural firm of Grounds, Romberg and Boyd to design the Dewdrop Fountain, sometimes known as the Fountain of the Birds, which stood in the Fitzroy gardens until 1980.

Hallmarks of a reverential renovation - 159 Gipps Street

Looking back Looking forward
The story of 'Berry Street' Child and Family Care 1877-1977. Berry Street was founded in 1877 in Fitzroy as 'The Victorian Infant Asylum'. It moved to Berry Street, East Melbourne in 1881 occupying the old Police Hospital that had been part of the mounted police barracks. Over the years it acquired neighbouring properties, including Tandarra in Vale Street.
