Jean McNeil Campbell was a well known novelist who lived in East Melbourne. She was active in literary circles and wrote substantial novels published by Hutchinson, London. During the Second World War she also wrote romance booklets published by New Century Press, Sydney. Her descriptions of life in early Melbourne are lively and passionate.

Copies of her works are held in the rare books collection at the State Library of Victoria.
