Like it's English namesake, Melbourne Punch initially was very disparaging of feminists and the movement for women's suffrage. As the political climate changed, its mood also changed. The Bulletin at the time was also predictably antagonistic. (Until Donald Horne became editor in 1961 its masthead slogan was "Australia for the White Man".)
