James Wood commissioned Blackwell and Dalton to build Woodlawn for him and his wife, Mary, in 1889. Their portraits are etched into the glass above the vestibule door. James was a principal in Wood Dunn & Co. Market Street, dairy produce merchants.
Their son, George, married Florence Peardon.
Mary died in 1906 and James in 1922 but it was not until 1937 that his property holdings were sold.
James' Great grand daughter, Gabrielle Morgan, has written an article about the family in Australian Family Tree Connection, December 2011.
