A scanned copy of a photo of John and Jane Conway at the rear of 340 Albert Street. An accompanying email from Joanne Miller gives details:
'My grandparents names are John and Jane Conway. They were employed by the Rombergs in the early sixties through to the early seventies as caretakers and cleaners for 340-342 Albert St. They lived in a flat at the rear of the building of the 2 adjoined houses. The flat consisted of a kitchen, lounge room, bedroom, laundry and bathroom and had been opened up to be the width of the 2 buildings. There was a staircase in the flat that lead directly upstairs. The flat was probably the original kitchens for the buildings. On either side of the buildings were blue cobblestone driveways which lead to an open space for car parking and some covered car parking and would have been stables in earlier times. There were 2 outside toilets at the back complete with pull chains. The buildings were beautiful inside with lots of ornate plasterwork, terazzo tiles, metal work and beautiful wooden staircases.'
340-342 Albert Street was the offices of Romberg and Boyd, architects.
