Newpaper clipping with brief report on a new restaurant to be established on the ground floor of the apartment building known as 150 Clarendon Street, a conversion of the old Mercy Maternity Hospital.  The restaurant will be called Roccella and run by Est Italia, a group made up of Francesco Crifo, Joe Ceraso and Bruno Ceraso.

Jolimont Street planned office building 'flawed'

Newspaper clipping reporting on the proposed re-development of 86-88 Jolimont Street.  Initial plans for the new office building were rejected by Council.  Report gives a detailed background to the story. 
The developer is named as Geoff Harris, philanthropist and Flight Centre co-founder.  Previous owner of the site was Cricket Victoria.

Advertising feature describes new apartments in East Melbourne.  The development takes the form of three separate buildings: the redevelopment of the old Mosspennoch mansion into six apartments; the seven storey tower next door and a larger building around the corner in Wellington Parade.  The Pullman Hotel on the corner lies between them.

Colour photo shows house of unusual Moorish design.  It was built for John Speechley Gotch, newsagent and partner in Gordon and Gotch.  It was demolished in the 1960s to make way for expansion of the Freemasons Hospital.

Victoria Parade in the 1950s

Colour photo shows W class tram travelling west towards the city along Victoria Parade.  The tram is a No 42 to Mont Albert. This route merged with route 111 in 1993 to become route 109.  The tram is crossing an intersection which is probably Powlett Street.  The tramline is bordered by neatly clipped privet hedges.

St Patrick's College - verandah

Black and white photo shows verandah at the rear of St Patrick's College.  The college was situated on the corner of Lansdowne Street and Cathedral Place, East Melbourne.  It was demolished in 1971 to make way for the Catholic Diocesan Centre.  One bluestone tower remains as a relic.

1852 Map of the City of Melbourne and its Extension - William Green

A map issued by O'Connor & Co., Land Agents.  It is a copy of the original map drawn by William Green, surveyor, architect and land agent, in 1852 and released in December that year. The map covers the City of Melbourne and inner suburbs.  It probably dates from the 1920s as by the 1930s PJ O'Connor had begun practising as an architect.

East Melbourne, Albert Street 097 - Tunbridge Manor

Colour photo shows a three storey block of interwar flats.  The facade is symmetrical.  The two top, outer windows are of unusual shape, the sides being angled inwards from about half way up.  The central entry with window above leads the eye upward to a stepped parapet, giving a sense of verticality to an otherwise horizontal scheme.

East Melbourne, Simpson Street 121

Black and white photo shows a single-storey double-fronted house. There is a verandah to one side with timber posts and freize which shelters the front door and a single window.  The projecting bay on the other side features a tripartite window set under a gable roof trimmed with decorative bargeboards.

In 1902 a second storey was added to the house.
