Typhoid Fever connected with milk-supply

A paper given at the Intercolonial Medical Congress of Australasia. A study of an outbreak of typhoid which spread from a dairy in Jolimont in 1879. Descriptions of Jolimont include rubbish tips, sewage, drainage. Detailed description of the house and dairy, and day to day procedure. The dairy appears to be 157 Wellington Pde. Sth. Maps. Tables.

Newspaper articles relating to Melbourne's water supply. One explains the laying of new pipes under Yarra Park. Another tells of the background to the building of the Yan Yean reservoir. Another reports on the recycling of water used when Rod Laver Arena was converted to a swimming pool for the World Swimming Championships. The water was afterwards piped to the Botanic Gardens lake.

The Bichloride of Gold Institute of Victoria

Describes an early cure for alcoholism and drug addiction. An institution practising this cure was established by Dr. Wolfenden in Jolimont. It was later bought by the Wesley Central Mission. Victorian Historical Journal March 2000 pp 43-51.
