Dr Adam Cairns
A paper on the life and work of Dr Adam Cairns (1802-1881), clergyman and theologian, and founding father of the Presbyterian Church in Melbourne. He established Chalmers Church, its first place of worship, on Eastern Hill. After his death Cairns Memorial Church in Powlett Street, East Melbourne was built in his memory.

This cottage was once the stables belonging to the property at 20 George Street, and was for many years after the subdivision known as 20a George Street and could be accessed by a footpath from George Street. East Melbourne, George Street 016, 020
No 16 George Street was built by Robert Dixon for himself in 1869. The Rate Books described it as a two storey house of six rooms on a block of land having a 66 foot frontage to George Street. It was double-fronted.

On 10 December 1868 Crouch and Wilson, architects, advertised for tenders to put in stone foundations for the Methodist New Connexion Church, corner of Grey and Hoddle streets, East Melbourne. Just over two weeks later W. Cranston, builder, submitted his intention to begin the work. On 2 February 1969 Crouch and Wilson again advertised for tenders, this time for the erection of the church.
