The photo shows four two storey terrace houses and a single storey double fronted house. The terrace was known as Eamont Terrace. The two houses on the left were built in 1862, and the two on the right in 1866. The single storey house was built in 1867. This dates the photo between 1867 and 1871 when another pair of matching terrace houses were built to the left of the existing ones.
The terrace houses were demolished in the 1960s to make way for flats.
The single storey house, originally known as Belle Vue, now 61 Grey Street, has had its left hand window replaced with a bay window, possibly added in the 1880s.
The photo also shows the very edge of the house to the right of the single storey house, 67 Grey Street. It shows that this house had a return verandah with a simple timber frieze.
Original photo is in the local history collection of the East Melbourne Library and came from the family of Peter Hill, first owner of 61 Grey Street.
