Burchett index cards

Burchett index cards

A box of index cards used by Winston Burchett to record his basic research on East Melbourne. There are 1,954 cards containing handwritten and typed notes as well as photographs taken by Burchett. There are some panoramic photographs taken from the top of the Hilton Hotel and the Mercy Hospital. Otherwise the cards are specific to individual houses, buildings, or terraces.

Date 1880 William Pearce built 3 cottages for himself, 1885c, he added 4 more cottages to the east side of the block. Pearce occupied one of the cottages until 1919. In 1975 no. 9 was occupied by R.G. Kermode

Occupied 1885 by James Travis.
Villa noted for cast iron lace ref. "Ornamental Cast Iron in Melbourne"
