A file containing a number of letters and documents pertaining to the proposed redevelopment of Braemar, 178 George Street, East Melbourne. The house had been threatened with demolition and was only saved when the owner and the Melbourne City Council agreed to the suggestion of architect, Geoffrey Borrack, that two units be built behind the house to make the property more economically viable without the need to demolish it.
The file includes a copy of a report by Geoffrey Borrack entitled, Project at 178 George Street, East Melbourne, written for Architect June 1982. It includes photos and plans.
There are some references to Crathre, 118 Gipps Street. The two houses had the same owner who was attempting to redevelop both, and the solution ultimately involved both.
