'Bombs Away', a solidly built structure, believed to be a bomb shelter, was to be demolished. A descriptive record.
'Death in a Cesspit', the report of a dreadful accident in which a nightman died after being overcome by fumes while cleaning out a cesspit. Descriptions of structure and maintenance of cesspits. This cesspit was behind the house at 206 Clarendon Street.

'Captain Gillbee's Undoing', Captain Gillbee of the East Melbourne Artillery Corps was was discharged after allowing a prostitute to parade down Bourke Street wearing his ecoutrements of cap, sword and belt. Gives background details of the Victorian Volunteer Force founded by Governor Hotham, and description of the drill hall used by the East Melbourne Artillery and Collingwood Rifles, now demolished and replaced by the Eye and Ear Hospital.
'"Larrikin" - Local Link', a story of the origin of the word 'larrikin'. Constable Stanton of the Eastern Hill watch house, is said to have been the source of the word.
