East Melbourne, Morrison Place 020, 022 - Burchett

Originally called Brunswick Street.
1887. Michael Kelly to build two 2-storey houses for Mr. R. Stone. Architect: Mr. Dunn.
1888. R. Stone - listed as owner/occupier both properties. Each of brick, 9 rooms.
1889. Names mentioned: No.20. Rev. William Cuttle and No.22 Frederick W. Pleydell.
National Trust Classification. Citation: 1974. Part of Eye and Ear Hospital.

East Melbourne, Punt Road 1035, 1037, 1039

Description: 

Three terrace houses built in a stepped arrangement to accomodate the steep slope of the site.

History: 

The first house on this allotment was a remnant of the old Mounted Police Barracks.  It and the hospital, which became the Berry Street Babies’ Home, were the only two buildings to remain after all the others were cleared in preparation for the subdivision and sale of the site in 1881.

A booklet outlining the life of Redmond Barry by Peter Ryan. Barry died at his East Melbourne home, Valetta, 206 Clarendon Street.
Tucked into the booklet were two newspaper clippings about Barry:
1. 'Kelly's final Victim' by Peter Ryan. The Age, 18 30 September 1980
2. 'No finer gentleman than Mr Barry' by Keith Dunstan. The Age, 18 April 1988
