Mention is made of development plans for the adjoining properties and the strong community opposition to them, particularly from the East Melbourne Group.

Since then it has become run down. A planning permit for an upgrade has been granted, however work has not started and the property is on the market.

Submission to Heritage Victoria to have MCG Hotel listed, citing new evidence as to construction date. Building now thought to have been completed in 1859 and possibly the same building in which football rules were written and Melbourne Football Club founded. Licensee at the time was Jerry Bryant, 'the father of cricket in Victoria'

New Boundary Hotel Newsletter
In 1991 chef Lino d'Angelo leased the dining room of the New Boundary Hotel to run his Restaurant Menage. This newsletter lists the various activities planned at the restaurant including music nights and wine appreciation courses. The newsletter also reproduces an article by Claude Forrel about the new restaurant.
