sketch portrait and obituary for Thomas William Lloyd who died in 1889. Lloyd was the first owner of 157 Wellington Parade South, built 1862.
Rod Lloyd, great, great grand son has further filled in the story:
I have a copy of a census , 1851 liverpool eng., states his occupation as an ornamental carver, with his wife sophia & 4 children. He arrived in Australia with his family and brother on 12 august, 1856 as passengers on the ship "red jacket". In melbourne he had two more children , a boy (my grt. grandfather) and a girl. I am sending a copy of his obituary. By the way Re; changes of house numbers, i have birth cert. copy for my grandfather ( thomas lloyd's grandson)as being born at 144 domain st. sth. yarra on 20 august 1900, yet when i google that address it is not there although there are old houses there . nothing has been pulled down. My grandfather's ww1 history is another source of frustration as he enlisted under age , served at gallipoli, wounded in france. He enlisted under name of arthur LYOD. but all research ends up with another lyod , a much older man sent home sick without serving. my grand father had the medals and serious wounds to prove his story.
