Biographical/Historical note: Charles Norton was born 1826 at Somerset, England; arrived in Australia December 1842; civil servant, draughtsman, photographer, sketcher and squatter, first at Tooralle, near Clunes and then at Carlsbadt, near Geelong; he married Susan Meade in 1848 and they had three children; he finally resided at 1 Spring Street, Melbourne; died Melbourne 1872.
