The history of the East Melbourne Group starts with a group of concerned residents who in 1953 fought to save the elm trees lining George Street, East Melboourne, from being axed by the City Council. One block of trees were saved.

Punt Road Oval development - flyer

A flyer produced by the East Melbourne Group and the East Melbourne Historical Society which was delivered to local residents as part of a campaign to stop redevelopment of the Punt Road Oval which in particular would mean the demolition of the historic Jack Dyer Stand.

Richmond Football Club vows to exit Punt Road Oval if Jack Dyer Stand can't be demolished

Article about Richmond Football Club's proposal to redevelop its ground to create a larger playing area, comparable to that of the MCG.  This will necessitate the demolition of the  Jack Dyer Stand, which will be replaced with a stand of twice the capacity.  The club claims that there is no other way to achieve its aims and if demolition is refused it will be forced to leave

Valetta gets repair order

Newspaper clipping reporting that Planning Minister, Richard Wynne, has issued a repair order on the owner of Valetta, 206 Clarendon Street, East Melbourne.  Valetta is on the State heritage list but has been allowed to fall into a state of dereliction.

Walking Tour of East Melbourne 1982

A brochure with the title Walking Tour of East Melbourne.  It was devised and written by Winston H Burchett, and published in 1982 for the National Trust of Victoria in association with the East Melbourne Group.  It provides a map with the subject buildings marked by numbers.  The numbers correspond to short histories of the marked buildings.
