Cooney-Meehan wedding
Photo shows Pauline (nee Cooney) and Richard Meehan as they leave St Patrick's Cathedral on 2 February 1945. Hubert Cooney, Pauline's uncle and sacristan at the cathedral, is in the background.
Pauline, Richard and their children lived at 4 Grey Street from 1952-1972. Pauline grew up at 1121 Hoddle Street.

East Melbourne, Hoddle Street 1121, Doontallie
This two storey tuckpointed brick residence with two storey cast iron verandah and render parapet has an unusual, possibly original side entrance porch under the verandah, with an etched glass window. The upper floor has full height double hung windows and fine cast iron balustrade. [i-Heritage description 1985] The double hung windows have been replaced with French doors.
James Cooney notified the Council on 16 June 1870 that he would build a house in Hoddle Street. This was just four months after his marriage to Catherine Sweeney on 2 February at St Patrick’s Cathedral.

East Melbourne, Simpson Street 100
A tuckpointed brick house with projecting central bay and elaborate cast iron verandah. The casement windows have leadlight panels. The verandah has a tessellated tile floor. [i-Heritage]
On 11 April 1907 Hubert Patrick Cooney notified the Council that he was about to build a house in Simpson Street. At the same time his brother, Thomas Vincent Cooney, submitted an identical notice. Hubert was about to build 100 Simpson Street, and Thomas was to build 96 Simpson Street, immediately next door. They had both been born and had grown up at Doontallie, 1121 Hoddle Street.

Pauline Cooney of 1121 Hoddle Street
First photo shows Pauline Cooney (1916-1989) in the back yard of her childhood home, Doontallie, 1121 Hoddle Street. Pauline was the daughter of John Joseph Cooney but was brought up by her aunt Mary at Doontallie. After her marriage to Richard Meehan she lived at 4 Grey Street from 1952-1976. Second photo shows Pauline with her elder sister, Marie. Marie became a Josephite nun.

Richard Meehan and sisters
Photo shows Richard Meehan and his sisters on board Stroud the plumber's motorbike outside their family home, 4 Grey Street, East Melbourne. Their mother Pauline nee Cooney grew up in the care of her aunt, Mary Cooney, at 1121 Hoddle Street. Pauline married Richard Meehan at St Patrick's Cathedral in 1943 and from 1952-1976 the Meehan family lived at 4 Grey Street.
