Sullivan

East Melbourne, Berry Street 042, 44, 46, 48

Description: 

Two pairs of two storey ruled render terraces with simple render mouldings to openings and more elaborate mouldings and embellishments to parapet and cartouche.

History: 

This terrace of four houses was built in two stages. The first three houses, Nos 42, 44 and 46 were built in 1886 by William Gates & Son, 38 Bank Street west, South Melbourne. The last house, No 48, was built in 1888 by William Boyne, Eltham Street, Flemington. All were designed by the well-known architect, William Pitt, for Charles George Allee.

1880. MCC BR: James Silk of Grattan Street, Carlton to build 2-storey house for Mr. S. Mirls. Mr. Rogers - architect. (Probably Robert Ravenshaw Rogers, 1850-1889).
1880-95. Simon Mirls and widow - occupants. Additional note: 1880-87 Samuel Mirls.
1883. Solomon Mirls, owner/occupier rated for 10 rooms.

Sullivan sells seven-floor block

Article reporting on the sale by Brendan Sullivan of Sullivan Properties of the building at 122-130 Wellington Parade, East Melbourne.

Also mentioned is the forthcoming sale of 96 Wellington Parade, described by Barry Humphries in 1995 as the 'ugliest building  in the city'.
