A display of photographs at the East Melbourne Library East Melbourne coinciding with Heritage Week.

When people think of East Melbourne they tend to picture broad streets lined with terrace houses featuring lacy iron balconies.  This is true, but East Melbourne’s built heritage is so much broader than just terrace houses.  This exhibition hopes to provide a glimpse of the diversity and individuality displayed by the homes of our past.
A small number of the buildings shown have been demolished and we have included them as a reminder of how vulnerable our architectural archive is.  Each piece that goes missing diminishes the collection and the story of architecture in this city.
