Walter Murray Buntine, third headmaster at Caulfield Grammar (1896-1931) boarded at the home of the Rev Mr Steel when a student at Scotch College. At Scotch Walter's best friend was Horace Gibbs. 'The Gibbs family lived in Jolimont Parade [sic] in a house then called "Marnoo", which later for many years was used as the administrative office of the Melbourne Cricket Club. Horace Gibbs had a beautiful sister, Bertha, and she, going to the Presbyterian Ladies College ... used to walk across the gardens on her way to school.' Thus the two met, and eventually married in 1894.
