Date built:
1933
Architect:
P J O'Connor, 317 Collins Street, Melbourne
Builder:
Mansion Constructions Pty Ltd
First owner:
Mansion Constructions:
Description:

A two storey block of flats constructed in 1934 and drawing inspiration from Georgian and Regency sources.  Lisieux House is a substantial symmetrical building, its front sections finished in white painted render and surmounted by a roof of terracotta tiles. The street elevation is dominated by a central entrance bay projecting from the otherwise restrained facade. Entry is by way of an elevated portico, its roof supported on ionic order columns and pilasters. The portico is balustraded at first floor level to create a balcony and the entry bay is capped by a finely detailed pediment above the line of the eaves. To either side of this elaborate centrepiece are a symmetrical arrangement of multiple paned, double hung sash windows with slender glazing bars. [i-Heritage database]

History:

Built in 1933 by Mansion Constructions, an investment company. The company's directors were politician, Parker Moloney and Anastasia MacIntyre, Moloney's wife's sister. The company was created in 1932, presumably for the purpose of constructing this building.
