History:
Originally built as five rooms, a sixth room added in 1882 and a seventh in 1888.
William Niven, stationer, arrived in Melbourne in 1857 on the King of Algeria with his wife, Isabella, and young daughter, also Isabella. He died in 1910.

1911-1926 Isabella Niven, owner and daughter of first owner. Isabella was an artist. She was enrolled as a student at the National Gallery of Victoria, School of Design in 1884, and exhibited at the Victorian Artists' Society annual exhibition in 1887 as well as other years. She was a signatory to the 1891 Women's Suffrage Petition.
