Date built:
1873
Demolished:
1930c
Builder:
John Young - Victoria Parade
First owner:
John Young (confirm with Rate Books)
Description:

A pair of two storey houses, with cast iron balconies

History:

From 1874 to 1882 the Rate Books description is for a 19 room house. During this time it was rented by M. and Mme. Vieusseux (see also 206 Clarendon Street) who ran the East Melbourne Ladies School there. A report in The Argus of 18 December 1873 gives a description of the end of year concert. Given that the Rate Books are usually a year behind it can be accepted that 1873 was the year the houses were built. The concert was held in the large schoolroom and about 200 parents and friends attended. Before the concert started visitors could view an exhibition of paintings, drawings and needlework, and also exercise books showing the work done by the pupils during the year. From 1883 the description becomes two houses each of 10 rooms, and later (when?) becomes 14. The site is now part of the Freemasons' Hospital.

Owners and occupiers:
