A row of six three-storey terrace houses.
Fitzroy Terrace, was a row of six three-storey terrace houses. Three were built in 1855 for Samuel Ramsden. Then in 1864 Ramsden lodged a notice of intention to build a further four houses. The fourth house appears to have been the neighbouring Verona which was Ramsden's family home until its sale in 1887 following his death in 1877.

Built 1855 by Samuel Ramsden for Sir William a'Beckett, Chief Justice of Victoria 1854-55.
Building demolished 1960c. to build Mercy Hospital.

A large two-storey house with colonnaded balcony and a balustrade around the roofline.
Sir William a'Beckett, Chief Justice of Victoria, and his wife were the first owners of Clarendon House. They personally selected furniture and fittings for it while travelling in Italy but did not remain in it long.
East Melbourne, Gipps Street 180 - Burchett
Built 1864 for Samuel Ramsden - a fine brick and stone mansion of 20 rooms.
Ramsden lived in the house 1864 - 1876 and his widow until 1886. Ramsden operated the Carlton Flour Mills and in 1868c established a paper mill on the Yarra bank near Princes Bridge. House demolished in 1960's to make way for the Mercy Hospital.

East Melbourne, Gipps Street 180, Verona
A pencil sketch of Verona, on the corner of Gipps and Clarendon Streets. It is viewed from the Fitzroy Gardens across Clarendon Street. The sketch is from an album of 24 sketches from around Melbourne and Victoria by K Kennedy and dated 1876. It is inscribed 'Mr Ramsden's East Melb from Melb' and signed K Kennedy.
