Two pairs of two storey ruled render terraces with simple render mouldings to openings and more elaborate mouldings and embellishments to parapet and cartouche.
This terrace of four houses was built in two stages. The first three houses, Nos 42, 44 and 46 were built in 1886 by William Gates & Son, 38 Bank Street west, South Melbourne. The last house, No 48, was built in 1888 by William Boyne, Eltham Street, Flemington. All were designed by the well-known architect, William Pitt, for Charles George Allee.

Built 1888 by Smith and Upton for Mr A C Allee. W Pitt was the architect. Pitt also designed The Princess Theatre in the same year and later the Rialto and Olderfleet Builduings in Collins Street. Occupied 1889 no. 123 - W H Rowe no. 125 - Mrs Tomes

Three terrace houses built in a stepped arrangement to accomodate the steep slope of the site.
The first house on this allotment was a remnant of the old Mounted Police Barracks. It and the hospital, which became the Berry Street Babies’ Home, were the only two buildings to remain after all the others were cleared in preparation for the subdivision and sale of the site in 1881.

Misses Spink and Allee bought lots in Berry Street and Lot 6 in Punt Road at first land sale.
Allee had house on site before terrace was built.
