Don Juan House was built in 1873 by Joseph Thompson with the winnings when the horse Don Juan won the Melbourne Cup in 1873. Don Juan House was a 2 storey dwelling of 14 rooms, stable and coach house.

History: 
'Joe' Thompson was a bookmaker and in 1873 he was also the owner of a horse named Don Juan (bought for £50 at Kirk's bazaar) who won the Melbourne Cup that year.
