Entree knife with silver plated handle and stainless steel blade. The blade is engraved with the words 'Grosvenor Delphic' written in copperplate style and on an angle to the blade. Across the base of the blade in block letters and over two lines are the words, 'Firth-Brearley Stainless 3' The handle is engraved with the word 'Cliveden' in copperplate style writing.
Harry Brearley of Sheffield, England, is credited with inventing 'rustless' steel in 1915. In 1917 he and Thomas Firth established the Firth-Brearlely Stainless Steel Syndicate, which controlled the right to export stainless steel. The logo, “Firth-Brearley Stainless,” was to be stamped on all knife blades made under the aegis of the syndicate.
Grosvenor, an Australian cutlery manufacturer, was established in 1928.
The knife was used at Cliveden Mansions.
