Dating from 1924, the cross is a memorial to the fallen soldiers of World War 1, modelled on wayside crosses in France and is the only one of its kind in Australia. The ceremony was attended by the French Ambassador to Australia, Christophe Penot, the Lord Mayor, Sally Capp, and the chairperson of the fund raising committee, Krystyna Campbell Pretty, as well as clerics and parishioners of St Peter’s Anglican Church, Eastern Hill.
