A book by Laurie Carew with Diane Masters, it is a memoir of Laurie's life from early childhood in Deniliquin and then moving to the city and becoming a window dresser for Georges, and later its Visual Merchandising Manager and Exhibitions Display Manager, through to his battle against melanoma and the amputation of his leg. During some of this time Laurie lived in Gipps Street, East Melbourne as a tenant of W.R. Johnston, antique dealer and collector and benefactor of the Johnston Collection. Geoffrey Smith, another local identity, is also mentioned. The book contains many photos including some with Diane Masters, a leading fashion model of the 1950s and 60s, and resident of East Melbourne.
