Pte Salikis enlisted on 19 February 1915 and embarked from Melbourne aboard HMAT Nestor on 11 October 1915. He returned to Australia on 8 April 1917. Note that [in photo] he is wearing corporal stripes and the boy is wearing a fitted uniform with the stripes and warrant of a staff sergeant. [AWM]

- Joined the 5th Battalion, 11th Reinforcements
- Embarked for Egypt on the 4th October 1915 and after suitable traning transferred from Alexandria for Marseilles on the 30th March 1916
- Whilst in Egypt was awarded 7 days pay for refusing to obey orders
- During August 1916, suffered leg and shock injuries and hospitalized
- On the 24th December 1916 was wounded in the field resulting in being transferred to England and then returning to Australia on the 8th April 1917 and was discharged on the 18th July 1917 "in consequence of blindness"
- Rejoined the AIF on the 2nd May 1919 to become a member of the Garrison Military Police with a new service number 82728
- New Attestation Papers declare he was 25 years old and Church of England
- Declared he was living at Newmarket, but did not know the address of his wife
- On the 2nd June 1919 was discharged as "service no longer required" and demobbed on 9th June 1919
