- William Maurice McKenzie aged 37 enlisted on th 17 August 1914 and joined the 2nd Infantry Brigade 6th Battalion AIEF with the SERN 26
- Attestation paper informs he was from Melbourne East, unmarried and unstated next of kin
- William was a Telephone Repairer being 5 feet 8 & 1/2 inches weighing 12 stone 9 ozs with blue eyes and dark hair
- Enbarked from Melbourne for service abroad on 19 October 1914 after being AWOL on the 1 October 1914 and fined two days pay
- There is no record of Williams stay in Egypt, however, he sailed from Suez per H.T. "Maloja" for Australia on the 5 March 1915 for discharge for disciplinary reasons and discharged "services no longer required"on the 12 Apil 1915
- However on 30 September 1920 a letter addressed to The Deputy Commissoner, Department of Repatriation, states 'that No 26 Private William Maurice McKenzie, 6th Battalion was discharged from the AIF as a disciplinary case, is incorrect. He was discharged - Services no longer required - non disciplinary"
- Williams Star, British War and Victory Medals were returned to him on 10 May 1923.
