MARTIN, Albert Edward
Albert Edward Martin was the youngest son of Thomas Martin and his wife Margaret, nee Kain. He was forty years old when he joined the A.I.F. on 4 July, 1917 and a married man:
1 June 1904: Martin-Jones, June 1 at the residence of the bride's mother, 21 Pitt St Redfern, Albert Edward, youngest son of the late Thomas Martin of Redfern, to Florence Edith, sixth daughter of James Jones of Blackheath, late H.M. Customs.
Albert Jones was an engineer , 5' 11", with blond hair, a fair complexion and blue eyes. He had a scar, caused by a bullet wound on the left of his upper arm.By religion he belonged to the Church of England. He gave as his next of kin his brother,Walter Henry Martin, the manager of the St David Mines in Bathurst, N.S.W.
He was sent to the Royal Australian Showgrounds the same day he enlisted, with the intention that he would join the 3rd Pioneer Battalion, Reinforcements 4. Unfortunately, he was rejected as a recruit, his medical report reading 'Bunions and Varicose veins both legs. Appears older than age stated.'
He appears to have no connection to East Melbourne.
He died on 6 November, 1962:
MARTIN Albert Edward —Nov 6, 1962, at hospital, late of 69 Lily St, Hurstville, husband of late Florence Edith Martin, mother of Hilda (Mrs Millar), father-in-law of William, grandfather of Jack and Gwen, great-grandfather of Kevin and Glenn, aged 84 years.
He was buried at Woronara Cemetery, Sutherland, N.S.W.
