LATTIMORE, Victory Reginald
Victor Reginald Lattimore was born on 24 May 1897 in Jolimont, the exact address, however, is not known. He was the son of Arthur Lattimore (1868-1915) and Louisa Augusta, nee Pay (1866-1948). Arthur has been variously described as a traveller, dairy salesman and grocer.
When he enlisted on 28 June 1915 Victor gave his occupation as assayer’s assistant. He gave his military experience as four years with the senior cadets 48 Battalion. His Certificate of Attesting Officer was dated 26 November 1915 and signed by Lieut Alan F Patterson. This must be the man who appears in a portrait photo of ‘V R Lattimore and Patterson’ taken at Seymour where Lattimore was initially posted as a private with 2 Company, 4th Depot Battalion. Victor’s medical certificate, although filled in, remained unsigned. This is significant as he was discharged as medically unfit to serve, having defective vision. The date of discharge was 26 November 1915.
In 1926 he married Veronica (Vera) Mary Kearney. He died on 18 May 1988 at Miami Beach, Queensland. His name appears on the school honour board of Prahran West (High Street) State School.
