Biographical notes: 

William Hussey was born on 3 July, 1895 at Strathmerton. He spent 3 years as a cadet whilst at school. On 16 September, 1915 he enlisted with the AIF at Broadmedows, however was discharged 3 days later as medically unfit - bunions. On 1 July, 1917 he renlisted again aged 23 years. Married to Irene Victoria Wallen(in 1916) with one child, they lived at 1117 Hoddle Street, East Melbourne, William working as a clerk with a private firm.

He joined the No.5 Australian General Hospital at Broadmedows as a Private. Three months late on 5th October he embarked on the HMAS Zealandic arriving at Southhampton early December. During this voyage he was made VO Sergeant, however reverted to Private once he arrived in the UK. On 6 December 1918, he marched into AAMC Training Depot where he remained until he embarked for Melbourne on the HMAT Medic in April 1919. He was discharged form service on 1 November 1919.

He returne to East Melbourne to live and worked as an accountant. By 1931 he and Irene lived in Kew where he remained until his death in 1942. He became a tram employee during the 1930's.
