Walter Drummond was born in Stirlingshire, Scotland around 1884 to James and Janet Drummond nee Strang. He married Martha Jane Mason of Richmond in 1916. On arrival in the UK he was detached to the AIF Depot in the UK supporting  3rd Division Supply Company. On 13 October, 1916 he was deployed to the AASC Training Depot at Bhurtpore Barracks at Tidworth before being temporarily trasferred back to the AIF Depot. On 13 July 1917 he proceeded overseas to France from Folkestone with Reinforcements for the 3rd Division Supply Column. On arrival in France he was attached t0 the Training Brigade HQ at Fovant where he remained for 10 months. Whilst on leave in the UK April 1919, he was admitted to hospital for injuries sustained to his left hand. 3 weeks later he was discharged mid June 1919, just prior to his departure on the HMS Ulysses, arriving in Melbourne on 23 July 1919.

Walter and his wife reamined resident in East Melbourne until 1921 when they moved to 52 May Street, North Fitzroy. Electoral roles indicate they remained in this residence until at least 1954. Upon return from WW1 Walter resumed his emplymentas a mechanic. His death is noted in 1960, registered in Fitzroy.
