Biographical notes: 

Albert's Attestation Papers indicate he was living in East Melbourne upon enlistment on 19th August 1914, whilst his next of kin lived in East Brunswick. Albert was 22 years and six months of age at enlistment, being 5 feet 5 and 1/4 inches tall.
As a younger person, Albert spent 3 years as a Junior Cadet and a further four years as a Naval Cadet.
After leaving school, Albert did an apprenticeship as a Joiner for 5 years with A R Greenly in Brunswick, Victoria.
Embarked for England per THS "Carisbrook Castle" ex Malta. Records are unclear as to Albert's time from August 19 1914 to him leaving Malta for England on 26 August 1915.
Admitted to King George Hospital London on 10th October 1915.
Whilst in England Albert was charged with making a false statement to obtain money and other subsequently offences for failing to comply with orders and was awarded various penalties varying from 7 to 21 days pay.
On 26 May 1917 proceeded to France and was AWL on 25 July 1917 and forfeited 11 days pay.
Albert had various periods in hospital and embarked for England on 29 November 1917 with Trench Fever. Albert spent further time in France before returning to Australia on 8 October 1918 and being discharged on 22 February 2019 with a British War Medal, Victory Medal and a Star Medal
