Biographical notes: 

Chassie Winton Brooks was born in 1884 at Williamstown, Victoria. He was the brother of Constance Jessie Brooks. (see separate biography on Master List) His father was Yates Brooks and his mother was Emma Brooks, nee Mullen. He was living with his mother at 144 Clarendon Street East Melbourne in 1909.

He married Edith Myra Rawlinson, aged 31 in 1915 and enlisted on the 2 July, 1915 aged, 32 years 9 months. His occupation was listed as a shipping clerk . He was a small man, only  5ft 3 inches tall.

After spending time at the Ascot Vale training depot, Brooks was assigned to HQ 3rd Divisional Train as a driver and embarked to England on HMAT Persic A34 on the 3 June 1916, disembarking at Plymouth on 25 July 1916.

He was transferred to France, where he spent most of the war in and out of hospitals with Scabies.

He was transferred back to England on 1 July, 1918, and embarked for Australia on the SS Leicestershire 9 December, 1918. On May 18, 1919, he was declared medically unfit. Once back in Australia, he applied for War Service home loan, but there is no notification of approval on his service record.

In 1924, he was living with wife, Edith Myra, at 86 Westbury Street St Kilda.

In 1949 they were living at 5 Moltan Ave  West Caulfield.

In 1954 Living with wife at 'The Birches' Neapean Highway, Mt Eliza.

In 1969 Living with wife Edith Myra at Flat 1, 30 Victor Street, Sandringham

Chassie Winton Brooks died at Preston Victoria in 1969 aged 84

His wife Edith died at Heidelberg on the 19 January, 1971, aged 82.
