BIDDULPH, Francis Edmond
Francis Edmond Biddulph was the only child of Francis Edmond Biddulph and Charlotte Izola, need Quinlivan. He aged 22 and a book keeper when he enlisted. His mother lived at 115 Grey Street, East Melbourne, which was also his address. Frank had spent 3 years with Victorian Rifles, and another 18 months with the Citizen Forces, so had some previous military experience.
He was sent first to camp at Royal Park, Carlton, then to the Light Horse Unit at Seymour, where he was made Acting Sergeant of the 14/4th Light Horse. He embarked for England on 28 January, 1916, on board HMAT Themistocles A 32. On 20 May,1916, like many of the Light Horse men, he was transferred to 1st Division Cycle Corps, which maintained communications and bore messages from and between battalions and command posts. He was taken on strength with the 60th Battalion with the rank of Corporal and then on 3 November, 1916, Sergeant.
On 26 November, he was sent to hospital sick with lung problems. He was returned to England on board HH Cartbrook Castle, diagnosed with tuberculosis, and returned to Australia for discharge.
In 1924, he was living with his mother at Apsley, near Wannon, Victoria, and farming. In 1926, he died, presumably from TB.
