Albert Clifford Banbury was born in East Melbourne on 17 July, 1890, but enlisted at Portville, Tasmania, giving as his address the West Coast Hotel, Hobart. He gave his occupation as 'labourer'. He was attached to the Field Artillery Brigade 3, Battery 9. They embarked at Hobart on the transport ship A2 'Geelong'. His war records from this point are unavailable, because he served in both World War 1 and World War 11.The records are combined under World War 11 at the National Archives in Canberra, but have not yet been digitised. The brief record available through the Australian War Memorial site gives his birthdate as 1908 and his place of birth as Footscray. This is either a mistake or a deliberate deception on his part, as in 1939, he would have been 49 years old, perhaps considered too old to enlist.By 1931, he was living with his wife, Stella Mabel Banbrook in Deepdene and working as a gardener. They stayed in Deepdene until 1954, but by 1977, had moved to Pound Street, Warrandyte and in 1980, were at 3 Don Ave., Croydon. They had one son, James Arthur Banbrook (1930-1954).
