Clement Serle Andrew enlisted on 8 June, 1917. He was then just over 31 years old, a clerk, living at home with his father at 90 Vale Street, East Melbourne. He was sent to the Australian Flying Corps at Laverton, Victoria, where he was enrolled as a 2nd Class Air Mechanic. On 30 July, 1917, he embarked on HMAT Aeneas at Melbourne and disembarked at Devonport, England, on 7 December, 1917. Here he was attached to the 6th Flying Squadron at the Australian Flying Corps depot at Wendover. He remained at Wendover until 27 December,1918, when he became ill and was sent to Stalefield camp for isolation. In January, his record shows him as convalescent and he was returned to Australia on the Orsova on the eighth and discharged from service as TPE on 31/3/1919. 

His life post-war seems unsettled: from 1919-1931, he lived at 90 Vale St. with his father, Fredrick Serle and mother, Dorothy Uric. Electoral records list him as a clerk, then an indentor. By 1936, he had moved to Longlands Rd., Mitcham, and was an importer. From 1937-43, he was at 444 Collins St., an importer and again, back at Mitcham. By 1949, he was married to Mary Stella and still at Longlands Rd, this time listed as a poultry farmer. In 1954, they moved to Indented Head, Victoria. Clement Andrew died in 1956. Mary Stella lived until 1973, with her last years ar St. Joseph's Home, Northcote.
