Protection of Yarra Park

Is Yarra Park being managed appropriately in accordance with its registration on the Victorian Heritage Register?

The southern corner of Yarra Park is taking a particular beating from car parking this summer. Our new photo record tells the story.

Despite good rains this year the plane trees started losing their leaves months before their usual time. Cars and trucks have crowded in against tree trunks competing for the best shade but compacting the ground so hard that the trees have had little chance.

The historic cabman's shelter has also been under threat several times as seen in these photos. EMHS members have alerted car parking attendants and called the MCG but any improvements in parking arrangements have been slight and short lived.

The management authority is the MCG Trust. They may be contacted through the MCG contact page or by phoning +61 3 9657 8888.
