Joyce Meier: Exhibition of Paintings
An exhibiton of paintings by Joyce Meier will be held at the Bridget McDonnell Gallery, 130 Faraday Street, Carlton, from 9 to 30 November.
Joyce Meier lived in East Melbourne for over forty years and has only recently moved out, now aged 96. In her youth she was a promising artist, exhibiting alongside many painters who are now household names. After her marriage she abandoned all thought of art as a career but she did not give up entirely, continuing to paint for her own pleasure. Many of her works are of local scenes, particularly of children playing in the reserve opposite her house. Now these remarkable works of a lifetime have been brought to light for the first time.
The exhibition will be opened by June Factor on Sunday 10 November at 2.00 p.m.
