Catalogue of an exhibition held at the Old Treasury Building Museum 31 July 2019-March 2020. The exhibition 'celebrates the partnership of an ambitious archbishop and an architect of genius in the creation of some of the most celebrated and enduring buildings in Melbourne'. The exhibition was curated by Professor Emeritus Jaynie Anderson and Rachel Naughton on behalf of the Melbourne Diocesan Historical Commission.
The archbishop in question was Archbishop James Goold, first Catholic archbishop of Melbourne. The architect was William Wardell, designer of St Patrick's Cathedral, Melbourne.
The main focus of the exhibition was the creation of St Patrick's Cathedral but also included a collection of paintings imported by Archbishop Goold. These painting made up the first shipment of old master religious images into the Colony of Victoria which were to accompany his ambitious building program.
