ANDERSON, Clifford Harry
Clifford Harry Anderson was born in March 1882
He enlisted in the AIF at Broadmeadows on 21 September 1914, Service number 985. He was allocated to the 2nd Field Artillery 4th Battery. On enlistment he was 32 years old, single, C of E, and listed his profession as Insurance Broker. He nominated his father Arthur as his next of kin and his address as 22 Powlett Street East Melbourne.
His unit left Melbourne on 20 October 1914 on the HMAT Shropshire and after a two month journey arrived at Alexandria in January 1915. The unit spent the next three months training around Mena.
The unit left Alexandria early in April 1915 and were part of the landing on Gallipoli on 25 April 1915.
Clifford was operating with his unit which was involved in action every day after landing on 25 April. In late October 1915 he was transfered to 3 Australian General Hospital at Mudros suffering from bronchitis and then probably as his condition was not improving transfered to the London War Hospital ex Mudros on the Aquitania on 4 December 1915.
He spent time in several hospitals in London and was then posted to Perham Downes at Salisbury on 28 June 1916. He was promoted to 2nd Lieutenant on 12 August 1916 and made up to full Lieutenant on 5 August 1917. He attended several gunnery courses in England and was back in France in late 1917 and early 1918.
He was struck off strength on 16 September 1918 and returned to Australia via Toronto on the Kasir-a-Hind on 24 September 1918.
His appointment as an officer was terminated on 24 January 1919.
He lived with his father Arthur at 22 Powlett Street East Melbourne until his death on 12 Feb 1934
